I am now offering negotiated, non-litigated divorces
The new year is off to a unique start, but one thing remains the same: I’m here to help families navigate divorce in Illinois. While the pandemic has thrown a few curveballs, courts have adapted with virtual hearings and streamlined processes for uncontested cases.
One of the most common questions I get is, “How much will this cost?” While I offer transparent pricing for many uncontested divorces, not every case fits that mold.
Introducing Negotiated Two-Attorney Divorces: A Step Towards Collaborative Law
For 2021, I’m excited to offer a new service: two-attorney negotiated divorces. This approach aligns with my goal of providing amicable, out-of-court resolutions that are less adversarial and more cost-effective.
How Does It Work?
- Both Parties Represented: Each spouse hires their own attorney, ensuring their individual interests are protected.
- No Litigation: We agree upfront that we won’t be going to court, which means less conflict and lower costs.
- Collaborative Approach: The attorneys work together to negotiate all aspects of your divorce, including parenting time allocation (formerly known as custody), asset division, and child support.
- Zoom Meetings: We’ll schedule a virtual meetings to discuss any remaining issues and finalize the agreement.
- No Court Appearances (probably): Once you and your spouse sign the agreement, it’s submitted to the court for approval, usually without the need for a hearing.
What’s the Cost?
This service starts at $3,000 for up to 10 hours of attorney work during normal business hours. Any additional time is billed at my standard hourly rate. There will also be a separate filing fee of around $500.
Why Choose a Negotiated Divorce?
- Control: You and your spouse have more control over the outcome than you would in court.
- Personalized Solutions: We can create a tailor-made agreement that fits your family’s unique needs.
- Reduced Conflict: This approach minimizes hostility and promotes cooperation.
- Cost-Effective: It’s often more affordable than traditional litigation.
